Join us for a book reading with Cheryl Jackson Baker, author of Affectionately Yours: The Civil War Letters of William R. Jackson and His Wife Julia. Cheryl will discuss Civil War letters exchanged by her great-great grandparents between early-1862 and late-1866.
The trove of letters, each in its original envelope, was found in a closet decades later. Baker, realizing that her ancestors’ letters were both historically significant and told a wonderful story, resolved to transcribe and share them with others.
After transcribing and editing the letters, Baker compiled them into the book Affectionately Yours: The Civil War Letters of William R. Jackson and His Wife Julia. Their correspondence captures vignettes of wartime life for a Quartermaster officer in the Union army and his wife, who maintained both the family home and business.
